Spigot bush pre install
Hi
Looking on some guidelines on how to prepare a genuine spigot bush for installation.
Leave as is, soak in oil (how long for) , and was contemplating soaking in moly grease.
Clutch kit and release bearing all here just waiting holidays and better weather so could be months away.
Anything I'm forgetting.

Stick the spigot bush in a jar of oil and leave it there until you need it. It wont dissolve 😉. I always had a jar with a spare on the shelf when i had manual boxes.

I’ve soaked them, I’ve not soaked them, I’ve greased them, all with the same result, in the end they will become noisey again.
The best advice if found is from Luke who manufactures LOF clutches;

“Spigots make a noise is when they spin in the crank, the Oilite bush is impregnated with oil at high pressure, dropping it in oil over night will not make any odds..... What I suggest is brake cleaner on the outside of bush + crank, loctite in place and then lubricate the inside of the bush. On the TD5 its common for the crank to become worn and the spigot to be a loose fit, hence bearing loctite is needed to lock it into the crank!”

The loctite of choice is 638 high strength retaining compound .

Just remember that to remove a component installed using Loctite 638 you will need to heat to 250 degree C.

Perhaps 641 would be more suitable, Worst case you had to replace it again in your ownership, cutting a slot into the spigot and chisel out carefully would still be manageable. Then clean the old residue up with emery cloth. Had to do this several times on various td5’s where amazingly they haven’t warn loose but seized in!

My spigot was screaming like a hell, but it was not loose. It was just not "greasing" on the shaft rotating inside. It was so tight, zhat I was not able to pull it out, I had to drill it.
New bush was "stored" in oil for several weeks. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
