Land Rover 110 19J 2.5 Turbo Diesel - Blue smoke down hill
Hi All,

I have an '89 110 with the 19J 2.5 Turbo Diesel.

When going down a long (2km) steep hill, 4th gear and foot off the accelerator, it starts to make blue smoke from the exhaust after about 500m. I was wondering if this could be lubricating oil from the turbo shaft as there is no boost pressure in the turbo compressor coming down the hill? The moment you give it some power, the blue smoke clears. The motor only has 77,000km on it and the turbo spool does not have any play.

To complicate things further, it does make a bit of blue smoke at the first start of the day, but it has only been doing this since the injectors were overhauled and replaced. (so I will be checking that the injector washers were installed the correct way around) Could that also be causing blue smoke on the downhill?

Could also be worn valve seats so that oil passes along the exhaust valve stems? Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000
