Our car policies all renew in May, (the hidden downside to having a multicar policy at some point in the past) but I've just refreshed the details with the Meerkats and looks like we're in line to pay the same as last year, which was twice what we paid for 2023.
Hopefully in 2 months time, and a bit of shopping around I can save something off that come renewal time. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

The premiums shot up on the back of an epidemic of Range Rover/Discovery thefts, primarily in London.
Land Rover have improved security on the vehicles and theft of Range Rovers particularly has gone down to a fraction of what it was. Theft of new Defenders is actually very low, and has always been. insurance premiums had to come down eventually. Last edited by lightning on 18th Feb 2025 1:40pm. Edited 1 time in total |

It's the theft of the Olde Defender that keeps the premiums high. |

pretty sure far more modern RR's and the rest have been stolen as they are as simple as having a 70's FORD key - just like many other modern offerings........

Just renewed my insurance. Was concerned as my current insurance had informed me that they would not be offering me a renewal.
Luckily the comparison sites have all decreased for me this year. £2000 was the best I could find last year, but managed a few quotes of £800 last week. Alterations to this year’s quote are that I have decreased my annual mileage and this is now my only car. Everything else has remained. Very nice guy at Adrian flux told me that many are being stolen and shipped to Russia, however they too were able to improve on last year’s quote. |

The whole market has improved recently, from I can see. Not just static, but IMPROVED. Definitely shop around if you don't see your premium reduced.
Of course the surge in theft of Landrover products has tarred the Defender line. In addition we've also seen that supply chain disruption (covid/chips/war, etc) and newer tech in the general market. Alos of course, EVs are significantly more expensive and seem to be written off easier. All these factors have contributed to increases in damage repair costs and hence increased premiums over the past few years. What I find annoying though is that all these nanny systems which have become legal requirements, haven't brought premiums down. My Def jams the anchors on at the merest whiff of a wobbly cyclist - surely the whole point is to reduce fender benders which should reduce risk, cost and premiums.. Perhaps this is now finally starting to take hold.. |

And we can't stop this? How much does it cost to open and check a container? |

have you ever seen a container port and realised how many are loaded / shipped every single day??
not helped by the last Government continually defunding everything and not having enough staff or checks to correctly control imports / exports!! |

One benefit of not living in the UK, just renewed my insurance in France:
110 Defender: Euro 340 Disco 4: Euro 400 P38: Euro 250 Series 3: Euro 200 All cars for daily use, kids included and in outer skirts of Paris. Either there is a lot of vehicle theft/insurance fraud in the UK or the insurance market itself is creaming the profits. |

Saga sent me my renewal at the weekend and they want to increase my premium from £372 to £970, which they have kindly offered to fix for the next 3 years at the same rate. No claims and car has reduced in value, so I don't know where they have fabricated this figure from. Girding my loins for the call to tell them to reduce it or else I'm jumping ship. Have already got quotes from the meerkats that are significantly lower.
