Advise needed:
I picked up my first Defender a few days ago (300tdi, 1995, 80k, RC chassis and 2 owners) and noticed a problem on the 250 mile driver home. I’m getting a lot of whiteish smoke when decelerating with partial throttle. If I take my foot off it stops. It’s fine when under load, it’s only when I take my foot virtually off. Apart from that it drives fine. |

It'd be worth checking the timing is correct to rule that out. Can do it without dismantling the front cover. Previous owners may have advanced or retarded the timing, or have set it wrong.
Then replacing the belt would be the next cheap thing to rule out before condemning the pump LR Workshop Find a Defender's history and spec: https://defender.lrworkshop.com |
