300Tdi whiteish smoke when decelerating with partial throttl
Advise needed:
I picked up my first Defender a few days ago (300tdi, 1995, 80k, RC chassis and 2 owners) and noticed a problem on the 250 mile driver home.

I’m getting a lot of whiteish smoke when decelerating with partial throttle. If I take my foot off it stops. It’s fine when under load, it’s only when I take my foot virtually off.

Apart from that it drives fine.

Hi LEZ90

I had this just recently and it was the fuel injection pump not being right, so i got one of my spare ones reconditioned and got my indy to put it on and now no more white smoke Very Happy

As you have mentioned, when pulling and your foot fully off the throttle, no white smoke but if you put your foot on the throttle a tiny bit then the white smoke comes in abundance, more when going down hill Rolling Eyes Clayton.

It'd be worth checking the timing is correct to rule that out. Can do it without dismantling the front cover. Previous owners may have advanced or retarded the timing, or have set it wrong.

Then replacing the belt would be the next cheap thing to rule out before condemning the pump LR Workshop
