I would check your MAF connector and wiring to it, it can fracture / chafe at the connector and on the engine / engine components. Do the same for wiring to the turbo actuator.
Also check the hose from turbo to intercooler, check from under the vehicle, it can split / hole if it rubs on the steering column or other engine components. |

I know it's been changed, but if your problem is always under cruising conditions, I can't help thinking egr valve ..that and of course what has been mentioned about other leaks, but you would think they would effect all driving modes..
Edit..and your mass air flow figures is far to low i think |

Low air flow - > Turbo Hose ?
What about climbing ? Do you have enough torque ? Just give it a blow on a steep motorway ans see the fault code + hose pop ![]() |

Hi,
Thanks for all the comments, I’ll go and climb under and check the hoses. There’s loads of torque until it goes into limp mode. |

At what coolant temperature is engine protection triggered on the 2.2? Surely it should be higher than 104C but that temp seems a bit odd in this season. Could it have been higher before limp mode was activated? I'd look into the cooling system regardless just to make sure.

Climbed back underneath and inspected the intercooler to turbo hose, found a small area of abrasion and although I couldn’t see a hole I’m betting it’s leaking. New silicone hoses on order so hopefully will be sorted once fitted.
Will let you know……….. |

Mine was split on the bottom side. I didn'it réalize unless unmounted.
And check the sensors for dirt. Especially those for air. They countercheck - and transmit default values if not consistent. There's a table in the workshop manual. |

I had similar to this, carbon build up on vanes of turbo, they wouldn't move quick enough when changing accelerator input. Alwaysnhappeneded after sitting at constant speed for a while at 60/70mph then say hitting a hill.
Mine was a 2007, 2.4, 70ish k. Drove well with changing accelerator.demands over a roads et and could be driven hard too, no problems. Sit cruising at constant speed and it would hit. Cycle ignition to reset it. No dash lights. Revive sorted it. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

That's good info..
So the op can monitor live data and should see a much slower and perhaps an overall reduction in boost pressure when the fault occurs.. Worth a look .👍 |

Yep i believe the turbo became temporarily fixed vane after a prolonged period of constant boost. Cheers

I’ve found that to happen once due to sticky non lubed Turbo Actuator pivots.
The vanes were free, but the above can cause that. A bit of periodic 3in1 oil on them, and never had an issue since. ![]() ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Yep, common with actuator going. Cheers

I'll stick this on here as we are on about turbos and actuators..
I have the 2.2l A 5 wire actuator connector.. Pins 3. 4 .5 all appear to be part of the actuator position signal, with a 5v ref A ground and a signal which takes the form of a pulsed square wave signal.. The duty cycle of the pulse..ie the amount of time it is grounded seems to determine the vanes position.. First trace is ign on..the 2nd Is at tick over..the pulse width ie frequency are the same but the amount of time it's grounded varies.. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Pins 1 and 2 are the motor connections. Fed by most probably an H bridge arrangement, and depending on what pin is supplied determines the direction of rotation.. A trace showing the two pins been supplied as the accelerator is pressed ![]() Click image to enlarge And a closer look at one of those voltages showing its negative duty cycle and controlled by the ecu.. The green is the motor current ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Hi all,
So, fitted new Alive Tuning silicone hoses yesterday, ran perfectly as before on a roads, took it onto a dual carriageway today and after 5 mins back into limp mode with a permanent Overboost error code again ![]() My thoughts now are to just change the whole turbo, the actuator in new and the vanes feel completely free as does the connection rod but I’m thinking it must be the issue. I love it to bits but it’s getting frustrating that I can only drive it locally without it going into limp mode. Any advice on a good turbo supplier? |
