Well the signal wire at tick over is around what i said mine was but I'm pretty sure mine varied by more than tenths of a voltage under acceleration..
I'm not trying to pee you off..but this is one of the advantages of a scope.. The voltage you are seeing on a multimeter is the result of a varying pulse width on a square wave.. like a mean or rms value , with the scope you can capture and analyse drop outs and behaviour and if you have a known good traces you can identify faults more readily.. Anyway all you can do is make sure the drop out was the result of a dodgy meter connection.. If you want me to stick a meter on mine and see what the varying voltage is on the signal wire with a multimeter I'll try and get that done.. Here is a picture of the reference voltage in blue and the signal voltage in red.in best blue Peter tradition..one i made earlier 👍🤣 ![]() Click image to enlarge |

I’ll order a new connector, I can only see about 3inches back from the connector due to the foil type inner and plastic outer conduit, both wires for pin 5 and 4 of the connector were bent almost 90 deg as they left the connector body, although the sheave hasn’t been damaged there’s no guarantee the inner wire strands haven’t been damaged.

The OP stated in their original post.
The turbo (standard) and intercooler (Twisted intercooler) were replaced in late 2021 EGR brand new 2 months ago MAP sensor replaced last month (Genuine part) MAF sensor replaced last month (Genuine part) VCV replaced last month (Genuine part) Turbo actuator brand new (Hella) Turbo vanes are very free to move with no sticking |

So, I had a bit of time to take it for a run today, watching the MAF sensor data, the g/s varied as I’d expect under load and was up over 100g/s during acceleration. Every time the icarsoft diagnostics records the date at the time of the fault code/limp mode, the MAF data is less than 10g/s this could be because it always seems to be that it goes into limp mode when I’m lifted off the accelerator. Unfortunately my diagnostics doesn’t allow me to log the turbo actuator demand vs actual. So I’m still none the wiser what the fault is, feels like I’m going round in circles at the moment.

I'm commenting further just for moral support lol.. it difficult if you are not actually experiencing it yourself..
Yo can monitor boost pressure i imagine..so does that confirm an overboost condition or does the map sensor reading drop with maf reading.. I'm wondering what else could cause overboost... restricted exhaust.. exhaust manifold pressure higher than expected , the turbo vanes or actuator sticking.. I remember from your first description I thought some issue with the egr valve as it happened after cruising conditions when the egr should have been active.. And do you have a manifold throttle valve...but I'm pretty sure the map sensor is after that and should record issues with that... Hope you can get a break and get it sorted...đź‘Ť |

So, to conclude (hopefully) the Overboost story! I changed the connector for the actuator, although it was still working, as the cables are now longer, they aren’t stressed/bent at 90deg as they exit the connector, so this could eliminate a future problem. To make sure I got a really good solder joint, I made a shallow V notch in a flat piece of wood and used a couple of pegs to hold the joint together when joining the pre-tinned wires, it’s always a pain trying to hold by hand and saves burnt fingers too! The joints were then covered using adhesive shrink wrap to stop any moisture getting in.
I bit the bullet and bought a brand new turbo, although the old one was only 2 years old, it was a reconditioned one. It was fitted today and after a 50 mile dual carriageway run at 70mph no issues with Overboost and limp mode ![]() I’m going to strip the old turbo and have a look at the vanes to see if there’s any play and how much carbon deposit there is. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

2 years life expectance for a new turbo ?
Did you get it from JLR or is it a cheap part from the www ? I'd check if it's still covered by warranty. If not I'd discuss a refund anyway. Don't exagerate acceleration / revs while driving. And don't cut off immediately when you were driving at high speed. Let it idle for a while allowing the turbo to cool down |

It was the previous owner who had the turbo fitted, it was a genuine reconditioned turbo. The new one is brand new from a Garrett distributor.
I do know the company who supplied the reconditioned turbo, I won’t name here as until it’s been stripped to see what the issue is, it would be unfair to say they hadn’t correctly reconditioned it. |
