Going back to the Defenders I cited above. 2012 pick up 90 for £17k.... using the Bank of England inflation calculator it means today in 2025 the same vehicle should cost £24k.

Those were the days.
Car prices have soared well above inflation.
The absolute cheapest base Ford is a Puma for £26,350! Even a boggo Ford Transit is £33k.

The good news is that these Halo cars are being bought, it makes the brand more desirable and therefore should improve the cars depreciation. The G class AMG full fat is around 180k now.

It says something that it’s more commercially viable to buy a brand new Defender than one that’s a few years old, the used market has held up very well for these cars, so whatever Landrover are doing is working.

Very good point - for all of us owners, in a round-about way, financially, this is a plus.

I don't see how LR can charge about 60k more than a raptor R.

For folks buying these things, 60k clearly isn't a problem.

To be honest, I've kept my previous gen defender (which will remain in the UK for now), sold the L405 autobiography for the Bronco and other than more road noise, I prefer every aspect of the Bronco to a L405. I haven't spent a huge amount of time in the new defender but I wouldn't say a L405 is much more refined if at all than a bronco raptor...

Okay... I've gotta say if you think the Bronco is as nice to drive on-road as an L405, you either had one messed up L405 or... that explains everything. Laughing

Sorry, being facetious, but I really have a hard time relating to that statement. I've spent considerable time behind the wheels of Broncos, Rangers (same thing) and nearly every later model LR (as well as numerous earlier ones). I can not understand this statement. Yes, on a smooth road with gradual curves I don't feel terribly much difference between my daughter's Freelander 1 and my RRs or L663. But if the road gets bad and conditions become worse, the difference is HUGE. I just spent about 3500km's behind the wheel of a Ranger on washboard roads in Namibia. I LONGED for an L663.

P38, and 2 L322s,
2 FL1s and a L663 on the way

I agree ^ Bronco drives like absolute Censored compared to an L663. However, the Bronco drives an order of magnitude better than a Wrangler thanks to the IFS and rack & pinion steering. And the Raptor drives the best out of all the Broncos - that long travel suspension is like a cloud. On a long stretch of highway, it is very good. Get in the corners and its roly-poly. Same goes for the F-150 Raptor. Although I'd take the F-150 over the Bronco any day. Quieter, more refined, more luxurious, better suspension tuning, and more useable.

If anyone genuinely thinks a Bronco Raptor has better ride quality and driving dynamics than any D7 platform JLR product is smoking the wackiest drugs imaginable. I've never heard such nonsense. 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟏𝟎 𝐒 𝐏𝟑𝟎𝟎 (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar)
