According to the (genuine) WSM:
It is however not a routine service item, it is a screen not a filter. |

I recently had my sump off on my Puma 2.4, and when I checked the pickup, it had some "gunk" on the mesh. I took it off and cleaned it out. To me it looked like it would hinder the oil flow, so hopefully will be better now. Not started the engine since the clean.

Exactly my thoughts as the tdci has an issue with burning out pistons due to lack of oil cooling.

Interesting that the WSM refers to a fabricated steel pick up but all the pictures seem to show a plastic one.
Yet another error with the WSM I suspect. |

There was a technical article in the last issue of Land Rover Monthly (Feb 2025) on how to replace the oil pickup pipe on a 2.4 TDCI if that would be helpful? The photos showed a plastic pick up.
