850 litres more load space but no increase in payload?

Umm aren't you both missing some fairly obvious facts.

GVW is capped by EU and UK legislation.... removing items from a vehicle won't alter this hard limit.

2 seats and a bit of cab are not going to impact the curb weight of the vehicle to an great extent. So it is impossible to increase the payload unless UK law changes or Ineos can defeat physics to reduce the curb weight without sacrificing the spec of the vehicle.

Weird response. I never suggested the GVW be increased, I merely thought it odd that the removal of some components has not resulted in an increased payload through reduced unladen weight.

I can only guess that the amount was not enough to take it over the threshold of being worth the hassle of re-certification etc. at the new weight.

Just on the subject of one seat versions, Post Office Telecommunications used to buy extremely basic vans back in the day with only one drivers seat. Larger commercial vans were also known to only come with a single seat. Haven’t seen anything like this since the 1970’s.

I remember many years the work vans supplied by the company I worked for, only had a seat for the driver (and no radio!). They were only small vans like the Renault Kangoo today. When someone from the company came out for the day to do a time and motion study type of thing, they had to sit on a box placed in the passenger side. Ah yes those were the days!

I have a price list for Mini vans and pick ups from 1962, if you wanted a passenger seat it was an extra £7 10s0d and if you also wanted a heater that was £13 17s6d extra Laughing Cheers Ian

My Mum had a Mini Van (1972). It had the luxury of a heater and a passenger seat but driver and passenger seat were not fixed to the ground on four points. They hinged at the front and if you didn’t wear a seatbelt and braked sharply, the seat lifted up.

As kids we would often ride in the back drawing on the condensation on the metal. No one died. Just as well we were never involved in an accident I suppose.

OT, but… Sadly, so true… Big Cry

Don't grief - just buy yourself a sailboat.

You won't even need a licence.
