Yes, stones can get stuck in the plastic under shield. It’s only held by the four bolts visible which screw into threaded inserts in the seatbox.

Those plastic things were only fitted to XS models and can be discarded with any apparent detriment. They are probably intended to reduce noise but don't seem to make any difference.

Take it off, spray some stone chip up under there, then a few days later some dinitrol.
Then if any stones do fly up it’d be largely protected and quieter anyway. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Thanks! Took it off and nothing there but I’ll do the stone chip anyway. Search continues!

Isn’t there a heat shield just in front of drivers pedals on the TDCi that can rattle from memory???

I’ll take a look this afternoon. Pretty sure noise is behind me.. but worth a look. I’d guess rear arches but they seem totally clear. |

Did you look under the seat, in the fuse box area for something loose?
Not sure if you like to slam doors, but there is a plate, extremely thin material behind the door striker, that should give some rigidity in the area. That fatigues and cracks over time. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Yes I’ve been through the seat box and didn’t find anything loose. I’ll take a look at the striker tomorrows. Could definitely be something in the pillar behind me too…

Took that apart and sound deadened it post rattle (sounds much better when closing) and I’m pretty sure it’s forward of that anyway

Plate behind door striker also fine. Went out again this evening and it’s definitely further back. I think next step is to check all the rear folding seat bolts and maybe remove the seats and see if I still get it… then onto behind the trim
