So about 6 months ago I fitted a brand new LR thermostat GBP 60 in my Defender Td5 and ever since it barely manages to get the needle to get out of the blue. Had to drive it hard to get it to about 1/4 and even then it would drop back in the blue on idle.
Annoyed me enough to go and replace it, but with what? What could possibly be better than an original Land Rover part? Oh hang on, a GBP 30 "OEM" (made in China) thermostat is what you need. Black, if you blow on the bigger pipe (steady on..) it passes no air, while on the Original Land Rover pos plenty of air passes. Fitted OEM and yes heating restored, needle in the middle-ish Given the number of Landrovers that use this thermostat, you would think they have the quality under control. There goes another myth. https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-PEM101021P |

You should always test new thermostats in a pan of warm water before fitting i have recently had a couple of genuine LR ones fail and i am now on a OEM on the 110 that gets up to temperature and stays there even during the cold 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

I've had genuine and Waxstat OEM fail to operate properly straight out of the packet. I always test replacements now in a pan of water.
