Not sure if a dedicated tool will show other TDCs.
Have you checked connection for the coolant sensor? Any means to look at the EGR operation? Fuel filter condition Battery connections And the rest of the egine sensors. Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

Hi MK,
Thanks for the reply, I have changed the fuel filter, checked battery connections. I am trying to book it in for a diagnostics technician to look at but the Christmas Holidays have not helped. I'm hoping its something silly and cheap. Regards, Rover |

Hi,
I thought I would post about the solution to the poor running and temperature gauge issue. I took the car to HRS Diagnostics in Holme on Spalding Moor, Yorkshire. He diagnosed a faulty Temperature sensor and replaced it. Now running well. I can thoroughly recommend Steve at HRS Diagnostics, he is a Defender owner and Land Rover enthusiast too. Regards, Rover |

Good he found the fault, which is the first time I’ve heard of that sensor going faulty.
As a bit of background. The 2.2 does have a dedicated coolant temp sensor, unlike the 2.4 which uses the measurements from a cylinder head temperature sensor as a proxy for coolant temperature. The 2.2 does not have a CHT sensor. Sounds like the coolant temp sensor was faulty. See part 8 for its location. Click image to enlarge |

IanH,
It was indeed the coolant temperature sensor, part 8 on the illustration. Regards, Rover |
