Defender Headlights
Just joined and would appreciate any help which can be offered.
We have a 1994 Defender 300Tdi, which we have had from new, though it doesn’t do many miles now. We have had an increasing problem with the headlights which can suddenly switch off – sometimes the rear fog light warning light flickers when the lights go off.
I have installed the boomslang headlight wiring, with modifications such as separate fuses for each side, and it is now better but not perfect and I have concluded that I should do the following:
Take out the dashboard and expose all the wires behind (including header joint), check for any faults, then completely rewire the existing switch to the old headlight connection via a fuse which connects the switch to the boomslang. My questions are these:
1. Does it matter that I am bypassing the dim-dip relay and the headlight relay – the wiring will be much simpler now and there are now relays for each headlight.
2. Where might I find automotive wires which would enable me to replicate the wiring colours of the existing
3. Any comments on whether anyone has had a similar problem
I know that some time (hopefully in the warmer weather) I will need to replace the fuse box and by completely changing the lighting loom now, it will give me more space to work with. Thanks

Worth buying a relay loom. Easy to fit (and remove) and brighter lights too! Cheap and spares your switch

Thanks for the replies. I have changed the wiring loom (Boomslang) to get separate relays for each headlight and the light switch and column switch are less than 2 years old - hence I am looking at other options
