You need to use a 70A relay. You may have to modify the switch. The Defender switch and the identical (but different coloured connector and body keyway) Discovery II switch, don't latch, but switch an earth momentarily. Dyna VT posted an excellent write-up with a diagram on the LRO forum, detailing the fitting of a Defender HFS using the VWP timer relay and a modifed Defender switch. The switch is modfied so that it switches a live pulse to the timer relay instead of an earth pulse, which the timer relay wasn't compatible with. The thread is here - http://www.lro.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=60317 . Paul. 1989 Arles Blue 2.5TD 110 Hardtop 1999 Epsom Green Discovery II 4.0 V8i 'XS' |

For the HFS, Land Rover use 4.0mm2 but, personally, I would probably use 6.0mm2 The Heated Mirror Kit or Elements should have wiring and/or instructions with them. Personally, I would use at least 1.5mm2, but would probably opt for 2.0mm2 . Paul. 1989 Arles Blue 2.5TD 110 Hardtop 1999 Epsom Green Discovery II 4.0 V8i 'XS' |

Thank you for the replies! One more question, when you say 6mm2 do you mean the overall cross section? Such as this: Thinwall cable 6.0mm. Ref: TW6.0 Thinwall cable 6.0mm. Operating temp -40 to +105 deg.C. Maximum working voltage 60v. Nominal current rating 50A. (Derate for long lengths) Resistance per metre at 20 deg. C: 0.00314R. Plain copper conductors (84/0.30mm). Maximum overall diameter of cable 4.3mm. Sold in multiples of 1mtr. Price per metre: £1.49 (£1.79 Including VAT at 20%) Or do you mean the bit I have made BOLD? Which I guess is the actual wire cross section? Sorry about all the probably stupid questions. Like I said electricity is a dark art to me. Regards Rob |

Rob, The sizes referred to, are the cable's Cross Sectional Area (CSA,) expressed in mm2 For the 6mm2 cable in your example - The cable is constructed from 84 conductors, each of 0.3mm diameter, the total Cross Sectional Area of this cable is calculated as - 84 x (0.3 x 0.3) x 3.142 = 5.93838 (or 6mm2) The other dimension they quote is the cable's overall diameter, which is handy to know when buying conduit, sleeving or cable clips. . Land Rover will not supply seat base heaters separately for love nor money, even to dealers etc! You either have to buy a new seat base or whole new seat!

Good excuse to buy a better seat? Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
