Having had to creat a new loom for the audio on my 2010 Puma, the illumination is a separate wire, so you also need a permanent live (to retain the radio presets) and a switched live so it goes off and on with the ignition - apologies if you already know this.
Check fuses first in the fuse box by your knees, then try a multi meter on the connectors at the back to see what you’re getting. The std speakers aren’t great - most of my audio wiring and hardware had been ripped out prior to my ownership, but the speaker that did remain didn't work. |

Just read again - it’s also possible a CD has been left in but won’t eject without the correct power supply.
At that back of the head unit, you should have an ISO block - 2 similar looking connectors that fit into 1 block - 1 for speakers, 1 for power etc. If the head unit has been changed in a previous life, some after market head units require the power inputs to be switched over, so just possible this needs swapping back. |

It could just simply be the rear power connectors being loose and locking tabs not engaged.
Possible anyway, worse case scenario the HU itself is not well in itself so to speak. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
