Run a new earth to where the underseat fuses and relays are. Even just a temporary one for a test.

Sounds like ECU not "on". Need to check power and grounds at ECU black plug, and the ignition "wake up" feed.
Grounds: Black Main Power: Brown/Orange (but will only be live with ECU plugged in and switching on main relay, difficult to test it unplugged) Wake Up/Ignition: White/Green You'll need a multimeter to check continuity to ground/battery negative for the grounds, and voltage to ground/battery negative for the power/ignition. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Looking like an electrical problem from the hidden security switch fitted by a previous owner.

Have you resolved this one?. I have had a similar one with the temp straight to red, even with a cold start. Fuel pump silent. Fixed mine with a new fuel pump relay under the drivers seat. It was sticking. I did manage to start up simply by giving the relay a tap with a screwdriver. Happy to send a pic of which one if you would like me too cheers

Problem sorted, I think the fuel cut-off switch must operate on the fuel pump relay, hence the temperature reading high when the engine is not running.
