LynxEvo + battery charger
Attempting to use my LynxEvo on my. 1999 10P TD5 beastie.

Firstly have to say when i plug it into my 2004 15P ODBC port works just fine, can look at diagnostics and. test various stuff just fine.

When i plug it into the 1999 10p however, not much luck.

If i attempt to connect using. odbc ... fails to connect

If I attempt to connect to perform some diagnosics , again, fails to connect.

Am wanting to check to see if the ECU can detect an old set of injectors i have b4 installing some reconditioned ones.

However,
On the iphone app, it tells you to connect a battery charger to your battery in order to get accurate diagnostic results.

I've always disconnected the battery from the car when charging ... and the Haynes manual also says to disconnect battery when charging. I'm using a Ring smart charger BTW.

So its it ok to connect a. battery charger when battery still connected to car ?

Given that the injectors are being changed, was hoping to use lynxevo to reporgram the ECU ... bit of a problem if im failing at the 1st hurdle

you can leave battery connected with most modern chargers no problem
dont try to start the car unless the charger has a a boost/ start setting as you can kill it with the voltage spike.

So ... connecting battery charger made no difference.
Now wondering if theres an issue with the connector between odbc and. EMS. lrworkshop is your friend, apart from some earth wires theres only 1 wire going to the ems from the plug. Guess id better check the continuity

Backup plan is that local LR people at LR Refurb ( North Newbald) will flash the EMS with the new injector codes for me if i take it there. Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb

and of course you cant just take the ecu to them to do as it relies on some interaction with the AS10 module.

Next question - been told the td5 will run with injectors without correct codes but will be "a bit rough"

its 16 miles to mot station ( car currently sorned) and then. 40 miles from there to landy garage
just wondering about driving that distance with incorrect injector codes ...

With good charged battery no need for charger when usig diag. Especially on Def TD5, it takes some power from battery, but much smaller than other modern cars, full of electronics.
TD5 engine runs with any TD5 engine ecu, it need only synchronized immo (or removed from engine ECU) and correct type of gas pedal (with wrong type, it will only idle).
For single use, like to get car from mountain road down to garrage, no problem. Just drive it gently. With right map it is better, with correct injector codes engine runs smoother. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
