Neat, but you have to wonder why the geniuses at JLR didn't simply include a third folding section in the ladder. Could it be that it was designed as a fashion accessory rather than something intended for actual use? Alternatively perhaps the proof-of-concept tester was 6'8" tall.

The ladder then would need to be 3 section deep, which is beyond the stated width limit.
Width limit is open door mirror to open door mirror. (PS - there no geniuses at JLR, it is left to the customer to re-engineer everything) |

I don't think it would have been difficult to design a three-section ladder which fitted in the same envelope had LR wished to do it. Perhaps an enterprising aftermarket supplier will one day do so.
I agree with you re, the geniuses! ![]() |

I hear the Chinese copies are not as good as the OEM parts.
But the rungs are 'drawn aluminium' extrusion and rubber coated like the OEM. |

OEM ladders are breaking hinges - I've not seen reports of aftermarket ladders breaking their hinges.
That said, the OEM's have cast aluminum hinges, the aftermarket copies have plastic hinges (ask me how I know). I am in the process of fabbing steel replacement hinges. They might go on sale sometime... ![]() RRC 2Dr, RRC 4Dr, P38, and 2 L322s, 2 FL1s and a L663 on the way |

After getting a grip on the ladder, put your foot on the top of the rear tyre and pull/step up. The other foot then goes on the ladder, and repeat. HTH. |

I have a knockoff ladder from Alibaba, it does not have plastic hinges, they are metal.
I also live in an area that uses salt/calcium chloride for ice removal. So far I haven't seen any corrosion. I use my ladder more than weekly in the summers, and every couple of weeks in the winter. |
