defender td5 swap parts from disco 2 td5
hello everyone,
i have defender td5 110 99`and bought td5 disco to swap engine and abs from. what else i can use from disco? it have ACE and rear air suspension. Anyway im going to fit air suspension front and rear, boss air bags and airlift performance 3H management system. which transfer box and gearbox is better, defender or disco?

Sounds interesting.

I’m surprised at the options you are picking. ABS, ACE, and air suspension would be things I would remove from an off road vehicle not add.

Is the disco manual or auto?
What is wrong with your Defender engine that requires a swap?

I'd fit the transfer box from the discovery (as long as it has the central diff lock) - but you'll probably want to get your ECU re-mapped for a bit more power afterwards.

Discovery handbrake is a nice change too, brings it higher up onto the seatbox so it's a bit more comfortable.

I've found the loom from a discovery handy for extra wire etc, as the wire colours are all available to you then.

You can use the r380 from a discovery, but you'll need the selector housing from a defender gearbox, and a selector quadrant from Ashcroft or Synchro Gearboxes.

There are a few other bits from the discovery which you can use, interior lights and grab handles, switches, etc 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

Disco transferbox doesn't have diff lock, can I take it from defender. What about a.c.e is it worth swaping to defender?

I've never heard of anyone who has successfully transplanted the ACE to a Defender and I don't think it would be easy. I can't remember if the ACE has its own ECU or if it a function of the BCU, but either way you'd have to fit the mechanical part and the electronics including accelerometers and harnesses and potentially have to reprogram it to suit the vehicle dynamics. It would be an interesting project and the results could be brilliant, but don't underestimate the work involved.

ACE is very problematic and I would not try installing that. I have ABS and TC on my 99 110 CSW and find it very useful on and off road.

I have to disagree with the post above, ACE is brilliant and gives no more trouble than any other part of a Disco2 (and a lot less trouble than many parts, a good example being the rear air suspension that a lot of Diso2s were blighted with).

It makes a huge difference to the vehicle's road manners and apart from the pipes rusting and being expensive to replace is generally very reliable. I think many people don't understand the ACE, are rather apprehensive of it, and don't know how to maintain it.

I'd sooner have coils and ACE than Landrover air suspension any day. However as I said above I have never heard of anyone transplanting the ACE from a Disco to a Defender and I don't think it would be at all straightforward.

ACE is also fantastic off road as it disconnects the ARB to allow some more flex plus the handling like it's on rails is fun on road though slightly scary 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Well here in NA with the annual freezing and winter and the huge amount of salt dropped to melt the snow and ice the ACE system is usually rotted and problematic after a few years. And yea the lines are stoopid expensive which is why many just remove it. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
