Makes it look a lot less fussy. Good to hear production is up and running, I will probably never be in a position to buy one but wish them well. |

You have probably summed up what is wrong with the automotive industry.
Most people in a normal job who work for a company organisation have been priced out of the new car market. My Dad used to buy new cars every now and again but on his type of salary in today’s world, his only option would have been a PCP. I couldn’t have ever seen my Dad going down the PCP route. Cars have prohibitively expensive even at entry model and spec, they depreciate at an eye watering rate and are the worlds worst investment. The Grenadier is a superb looking motor. I’ve never driven one because like wise, I couldn’t justify £70K (or however you wish to finance the vehicle) on this vehicle or any other. I wonder if the issue with the Grenadier is there are plenty of people who would buy one but it is probably out of most people’s budget. The old Defender was always expensive for what you got, but the ‘replacement’ is almost double the price. I also wonder if the Grenadier is too niche. When you look at the people who would buy one, then the people who could buy one, it can’t be a large demographic of the population. I too wish them luck, if only to keep Procta in a job |

@Rashers, I was chatting to a guy just the other day who used to work in the motor industry selling cars, he told me he was selling high end cars (not super cars, but just top spec models etc), he's since retired but a friend of his still in the trade told him something like 80-90% of the cars he sells nowadays are financed.
I don't make 70k (or over) a year, so a purchase like that would require years of saving... I can't imagine going through years of saving then gather that all up and drop it on a vehicle... So to justify 70k, it'd probably have to be maybe 20% at most of my salary (for my mind to be comfortable), so talking a salary of 350k  ... Thanks Rashers  We have just started assembling the cowels since we returned after xmas there. The lad i work with has been on assembling parts that we had mothballed before production was parked, Also it was stated that INEOS had orders in since November, But i think everyone has been waiting for a green light, which has now gone Green. I am yet to see any new parts come off the presses yet, but i recon that wont be too long Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

just an update, parts started to come off the presses the other night, I was covering a break on one of them, So things are slowly starting to move forwards with new stock. Forecast is stated to go high

That is so true, Bowbearer. And it supports Procta's Land Rover
There are a lot of industries which support dozens of smaller businesses. This might take a lot of swallowing for some people but the Armed Forces employs thousands and thousands of civilians. All through my previous career, we would always find long well paying contracts, for us, mainly working on the East Anglian airbases, but I am sure the other services have just as much need for a civilian workforce. What accelerates spending is a War. Unpalatable, I know, but you would be surprised how money can be found when the country starts a fight with another country. If the environmental pacifists get their own way, the countries economy will go to hell in a hand cart

My opinion,
They should build a v8 manual. Sort out the suspension to make it more road biased and sell it as a cheaper alternative to the G Wagon. If you look at the top end of the market it is a hell of a lot healthier than trying to compete with the Chinese when it is a niche vehicle. Not cheap enough to be a work vehicle but not exclusive enough to appeal to nobbers. The waiting list for chunky 4x4s with daft engines and big price tags is healthy, Octa, G Wagon and nobbers seem to love driving this sort of vehicle around towns. In Holt, Norfolk yesterday there were 3 G Wagons and 2 V8 Urban Defenders, highly polished, not a bit of mud. Not drug dealers but UFL bods. I think a LOUD Gren would sell well to that market. Like I say my opinion. |
