2024 P500 V8 SE owner I can confirm this works using the GAP IIDTool G4 after I obtained the the beta F/W from Patrick. You need build 171 for it to work. As I already had a heated steering wheel as standard, I didn't need to swap out the clock spring or the right hand steering wheel switch pack. If you don't have a heated wheel, these parts will also be required and will add significantly to the cost. Note that after installing everything, until you actually update the CCF to enable the paddles and perform the TCM relearn you will get a diagnostic fault code set for the right hand steering wheel switch pack, that indicates an internal fault with the unit. I think this happens because this switch pack is sensing the presence of the paddles and starts to send CAN messages accordingly, which does not match with the car's configuration. Once everything is updated this error goes away. A further PIVI reboot is needed for the menu options for the shift paddles to appear. These are the parts I needed 1) Left paddle - LR139904 - $121.28 2) right paddle - LR139905 - $121.28 3) Alcantara Steering wheel - LR183013 - $711 4) Steering wheel wiring loom - LR142723 - $162.08 5) Paddle mounting machine screws (4x) - LR140025 - $1.18 each These parts were all ordered from Uk suppliers and shipped to the US. Most of this stuff seems to be on backorder here with no ETA. These parts all arrived from the UK within a week or so. One final note - my car has the electrically adjustable steering column and due to having ZERO slack in the loom to the column adjustment control on the lower shroud, it made getting the thing off without causing damage a huge pain in the arse. |

You can remove the steering wheel without removing the cowls, you need a hex tool with a round end like the one in the photo below. Turn the steering wheel until one of the air bag release holes is at the top, use one of the tools (round end) to inset it into the hole and wiggle it about until the air bag pops off the first clip, then turn the wheel 180 degrees and do the second one. I worked this out after struggling to remove the cowls as I have electrically adjustable steering also. You may want to disconnect the battery while sticking your tool in to be on the safe side and plus it's easy to sound the horn. I can pop the airbag off in less than a minute now

Have to admit I tried it that way to start with and I struggled to get it to engage the sprung retainer.
I had seen the video too. I guess I'm just too ham fisted So I bit the bullet and took the shroud off anyway in the end to give me a bit more space to work with. i was able to do it without damaging or scratching anything. And yes, once you get the right technique, its straightforward. And then once you see inside one can appreciate exactly how its constructed and how best to unlatch it, and that really helps to understand how to optimize the technique. Once i got past that hurdle the rest of the job was very simple. |
