Retrofit heated seats - relay or not?
I've looked at two kits -

Exmoor trim -
https://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/the-new-defen...r-kit.html

Britpart -
https://www.britpart.com/parts/da5717

So far as I can tell, the exmoor trim kit has at least one relay, whilst the britpart kit just has switches.

It that the case? I assume the britpart kit works, but I'm surprised by the difference.

Can anyone confirm that one has relay(s) and the other does not?

Thank you.

I can't confirm if the Britpart one has relays but I would say that heated seats should have them.

I have a complete wiring set-up from Exmoor Trim and a set that I bought from Ebay. They are almost identical. Both have relays and 20mm round switches.

The Exmoor ones are not special (just my opinion) and are probably rebranded ones produced overseas. I would save over a hundred quid and buy a set like this:

Or similar. I used a set like this in my 90 and they were great. And I have a set to fit in my current 110.

I used Waeco pads, and genuine switches, with two relays.

No need for the two way switch, just use the low heat setting. No Guts, No Glory.

Thanks for the link. Id actually considered just buying the pads as I know the loom won't be long enough, or the switches the wrong size (etc) but all the pads I found seemed almost as much as the kits.

I recently found a nice set of heated rx8 seats for my friend at £120 which made the heated kit for mine (I like the stock seats, and don't want rx8 ones) seem poor value, but if you reckon the cheap kits off eBay are viable, then that seems like a plan.

Thank you.

Do they dual way switches swap the two pads between series and parallel? I mean to control the heat?

My plan was to get one of those raptor fuse box covers (300tdi) with the switches on the side, hence thinking the loom on any of the kits wouldn't reach anyway.

The Waeco kits come with switches, a pre heat setting and standard setting, the pre heat is too hot to use continually, as I used genuine (Puma in my case) switches I wired the pads to be the standard setting.

There are quite a lot of options, they are good kits. No Guts, No Glory.

The relay on the kits is wired, I think, to run the two pads in either parallel or series. The series wattage would be way way less than the parallel, and I'm wondering if it would ever be useful?
