I wonder if an old D2 key would work. Looks similar, and can be picked up for pennies Thumbs Up

In fact, I'm sure I have a spare couple of fobs and blank blades. I'll give it a bash next week Laughing

Dan from defender electrics suggested this one to me and a lot cheaper and uses you existing internals so don't need to re programme

Further to pj2106 suggestion. I've been speaking to Dan at Defender Electronics about this folding key. He is testing them at the moment and will have for sale shortly, cost is in the region of £20-30! It uses the gubbins from your existing key and will work for my 2012 2.2. Thumbs Up

You can find him on Defender Electronics on FB James

The metal key blade can be cut at any good high street cutter by copying your existing key.

No it cannot I have just tried to have a Land Rover blank key cut at Timpson’s, can’t do it they said at three different branches, because we cannot guarantee it, you would have to buy the blank off us to be able for us to cut it they said. Same at two independent locksmiths, in the end I had it cut from a guy at a market stall in Bangor Wales but even he said I will cut it but if it fails I will not be able to replace it. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Whilst a combined 10as fob/key is a convenience perhaps, if you currently don't keep the key and fob on the same bunch you are effectively removing a security layer by combining the two.
Somebody steals your key they're away. They need both in a normal key theft scenario. This is the one reason and one reason only I personally never have liked the idea.
I have always kept the fob on a lanyard separate to the key itself.

My Harley Davidson is totally keyless and I don't particularly like or have much confidence in that concept at all but it may be misplaced. The lack of confidence not the key that is!

Whilst I appreciate what you're saying and totally agree keeping them apart adds security but... the frequency my wife 'loses' the keys, no way would I have her separate them Rolling Eyes James

Confused

I just walked in to a key shop, handed over the keys, the chap laughs and says "oh, they're still using those are they? You might as well carry a teaspoon around", I go and do my shopping, come back half an hour later and I've got two keys. Simple.
