Do all cars have the loom and you just need to add a switch?

I don't want to kill your illusion, and of course you can do whatever you want with your car. I know these ones and they look very nice, but they are too exposed for my taste. They are more old school D3. I think the original ones also look very good, they are very well done, they are better protected and they are quite effective, considering how ineffective fog lights always are!

NO, not all vehicles have the loom. These are replacement items, so you need to have the fogs already fitted. OK, as for the switch.... this is on the left hand stalk (of the steering wheel, next to the 'rear' fog switch) and would need bought again as a replacement, replacing the original stalk. Then you have to check if the 'clock spring (Squib) loom' is present ? in the steering wheel. Then you need a main loom that picks up power/fuse and a relay. As these are Fogs and DRLs you need a second loom to run the DRLs with a ''ignition feed' (not the same as the headlamp DRLs, as the lower DRLs do not need to turn off whilst Indicating. Ruben, I picked these up BRAND NEW off of eBay (£150) from a guy who bought them and then realised what was involved to fit them. Projects like these are everyday tasks for me. You may have seen my post about cutting into the rear lamp cluster and reconfiguring the internal wiring to give rear DRLs (just the outer two square lamps on each side)  Click image to enlarge |

For the drl's you can simply run a wire to a connection under the bonnet at the fuse-board. I have done this myself for an led I front-mounted. This is a swl not a perm.live so exactly what you need.
You even get a delay after turning the engine off and locking the car (akin to/alongside a home coming illumination). Also why not wire the fog lights via their own relay with internal switch? You won't need to drive with your front fog lights on unless it's foggy and your headlights are off. Unless, you're one of the folks that drives everywhere with your front fogs on blinding all the oncoming cars especially with standing-water on the road. In this case the 'on' button needs wiring to some kind of inferno so you self-combust if you choose this function  |
