I have Britpart Supergaz shocks there good they are cheap they aren't all thrills but they work and the top hasn't snapped off yet unlike OME ones 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Britpart cellular dynamic have lasted really well for me on my old 300tdi, seven years old with no issues, although they are probably a bit harsh for trials.
Compare this with the brand new £600 Fox set I fitted to my Puma, they lasted six months and zero miles before the damper rods had completely rusted. Fox wouldn’t warranty them as had purchased them over a year ago but didn’t fit them until the spring |

Prior to Terrafirma releasing their four way adjustable dampers I was given a set to pre test. Like you it was used for road, green lanes, British Army Navigation events (setting out and competing) which included RTV sections. During my testing (and to keep this short) Setting 1 was best for pure off tarmac and RTV, very supple and smooth. Too soft on the road and cornering was horrible Setting 2, a great all rounder, set at home drive on the road then green lane or compete. Better than getting under the truck when muddy. Also perfect for the crap Surrey roads and endless speed humps we have here. Setting 3, best for A and motorway driving. Great handling and smooth at speed, helps to remove any sway if windy. Once I drove in this setting to Exmoor then changed it to setting 2 in the hotel car park so was ready for the Land Rover Experience day and then the drive home. Setting 4, was too hard for me and it felt like I could feel every lug on my mud terrains. Maybe better with road biased tyres and Swiss tarmac….. The set I had lasted 7 years before I changed to Old Man Emu, which for me was a mistake as I find them too stiff (maybe need softer springs) and I miss the adjustability to match my needs at the time. Having different settings front and rear would induce understeer or oversteer, not great on the road but could be useful for an off-road speed event such as a comp safari From what you say, you want good road manners, but at the same time a supple option for RTV. The difficulty is that some opinions are hear say, some are based on what others are using, but not in the situation that you want to use them in (nobody can convince me that their detailed shiny Defender has the same experience off tarmac as my pinstriped 90).
Even retailers will only try to sell you what they have over what you need, and of cause you cant try before you buy. A minefield Good luck |
