110 rear light issues
Hi all, I’ve got a new issue with my 110; a few weeks ago I noticed that while the brake light is working fine, the near side rear side light and licence plate light are out until I plug my trailer in then they work fine - what do I need to look at (wiring loom is a total mess (from when I bought the LR) and the trailer is a Penman which I converted to 7-pin 12v electric's).

Any & all help appreciated

All I know is that the fittings are pretty naff, so check that first. The main harness chaffs through inside the chassis causing problems with earth becoming live, flashers coming on with the brake lights, tail light faults, along with other strange things. I had loads of problems with the new light fittings getting hot due to poor connections, then melting/ distorting. In the end I fitted led tail lights, which are excellent. Plugging the trailer in possibly suggests earth fault from the light as the trailer loom is providing another earth. That’s an educated guess which could be nonsense, but I’d start with the fitting. 1983 110 automatic OM606

Thanks Mark - yes the front end of the loom is worse and I’m also having issues with front headlights & spots too but that’s for another days fix lol !

I’ve fitted new LED rear lights over a year ago and just Monday fitted a new LED license plate light (as oem was badly corroded and had stopped working as noted above) so will pull the rear wiring/loom out and check it for wear, chaffing, etc. and hopefully find the issue.
