Solar attenuating windscreen
Just putting the finishing touches to my order.

What's the general consensus regarding the Solar attenuating windscreen. Interested in people's experiences rather than what the information says it does.

Does it

- Reduce heat
- Reduce wind noise
- protect a little more from cracking screens

£220 doesn't sound much but I don't want to waste money on snake oil.

Not noticed much difference between this and other cars without it. I ordered it because I travel to Italy a lot and thought better to have it than not.

Does it make a difference 🤷‍♂️

As for cracking windscreens, I'm on number five in two years and 36.000 miles. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Wow, to be honest the windscreen issue is starting to put me off the car.

Surely it can't be acceptable

It definitely reduces heat. If you are planning to spend a lot of time in the south, it is worth it.
As for anything else, I doubt that it makes a difference.

Agree with above, definitely reduces heat. It is noticeable, especially in very strong sunlight and when you compare with a standard screen.

As for cracking, the Defender screen I don’t think is any more susceptible to cracking than any other. Mine has had a couple of pretty severe impacts which have only resulted in very small chips. Firstly, all automotive screens are made by only a very small range of manufacturers, so it is not the vehicle brand or model responsible for ‘faulty’ screens. Second, while vehicle design is obviously a factor, and any of us can be unlucky with suffering a cracked screen, we can all see the majority of vehicles driven too close to the one in front, especially at speed on motorways so it’s not surprising that these drivers will experience more frequent screen damage. 23.5MY 90 V8 Carpathian

I am in Australia with average daily temps at 35 deg Celsius and would not be without it as it makes a substantial difference

We have this on my wifes V8 110 - it definately id different in terms of reducing glare/heat in the sun but woe betide if you crack it or it needs replacing.

Thanks fully i have a pal who did it for cash but most quotes were coming out anywhere from £1500-£1900 + VAT

Managed to get it for £850 cash in the end from my pal Defender 130 HCPU TD5

yes we do but its a £250 excess - and contrary to what they tell you (it won't affect premiums etc) we have a small company/family fleet where our prices per vehicle are high, and in prevoius years where we claimed for windscreens/wing mirrors etc, it ended up woith our premium going up well above the base rate increase even with no 'real claims' or incidents etc so i prefer to pay for them myself which gives us more negotiation space when we renew. Defender 130 HCPU TD5

Sounds well worth it for £200 then. I'll add it to my order.
Presumably you can replace with a normal screen if it cracks?

Why would you replace with a ‘normal’ screen? When I replaced a screen on another car recently Autoglass were linked as the repairer by the insurance claim service. They took the reg number which they used to get the spec of the original screen and supplied and fitted that. The insurance company said at the time that a claim for screen replacement would not affect future premiums or NCD.

Also bear in mind that as well as solar attenuating it will be specific for HUD as you said you have spec’d that too. 23.5MY 90 V8 Carpathian

I've read threads where screens were not available for weeks. Having flexibility to use any screen coul minimise that issue.

I've also read people claiming multiple times and insurance won't cover again.

Factoring in needing to buy personally.
