You need to acid etch them for it to stick

Rivnuts will require the holes in the wingtops to be significantly larger ! You sure you want them to resemble a Swiss cheese ?

As nickmc mentioned, plus some red 3m scotch pads will be useful but don’t sand too much or you’ll end up with no treads left.
Paint stripper first would be a good idea to lift most off first.. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Having had the misfortune of having to sand a lot of Raptor in the past, I would sell those on, buy new and then rivet them on.
Not sure on the going rate right now but surely for around £100 you can get new ones. Versus hours of effort plus £40 for a bottle of raptor. As ever, personal choice but I'd save my effort for other jobs. |

OMG. That uproar stuff is vile. I can’t believe anybody would have that, let alone pay for it.

You know what they say each to their own, this is why each Defender is different.
One of the biggest issues is over price, it’s amazing how many extortionate prices are out there. (Often parts the sane quality from different places, with a doubled price mark up). Their side steps are nice but not £1200 nice. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 Last edited by custom90 on 24th Oct 2024 11:16am. Edited 2 times in total |

You know what they say, fools and their money are soon parted. There isn’t any need to argue, as my original point was stated, each owner has their own preferences and free to choose what they like.
As I mentioned before, it’s astonishing how you can find almost the same parts sold at different vendors for wildly different prices often for the exact same parts. £1200 for electric side steps like some Wranglers have I can understand, and that is still a lot of money. But not for just static side steps, considering most on the market are in the £240 to £480 price range. Value doesn’t necessarily buy taste, there is for example the Khan range, but someone will buy it, probably lots of people, so it’s all in the eye of the beholder. And that is quite fine by me. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Back to the original questions. Is there a tool you could make out of a bit of flat bar that you can use to position and hold the nuts while you do them up ? Far better than drilling big holes for rivnuts.
Re the Chequer Plate, better to get it blasted, then acid etch prime, then spray with a hard chassis paint. |

Thank you everyone for your replies. I do have a pop rivet gun so I think I'll use that to put them back on like I say spraying raptor is not a problem I pretty much done everything on the truck that's black wheel arches grills roof bed the lot. For some reason it just didn't like the checker plate that's why ill just sand it down so it's flat and then spray it again the only thing I don't like is the foam on the back seems to trap water maybe some sealant around them

I think you are right to just use standard rivets, and avoid rivnuts, not only will that enlarge the holes as has been mentioned but they’ll seize as well if ever you wanted to remove the plates and then that’s a real problem. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
