Bathurst 1000. V8 Supercars, this weekend.
Hello from Aussie, The Bathurst 1000 is on this weekend, not sure if any of you can get it via your various communication/TV services etc.
The main 1000K race commences around 11.00am Sunday our time, but practice, testing etc has been going on for the last two days, with some very severe crashes, car damage etc but no serious injuries.
As some of you would know, we currently have Mustangs V Camaros, but the very recently announced great news is that Toyota will be competing from 2026 in their V8 GR Supra.
This is our "Great Race", so I hope some of you can enjoy it too.

good stuff your races are, we did get them on euro sport i think, not sure if they are still broadcasted now, Motors TV used to do a bit too, before that went off the air. I do like to watch the odd race on youtube, the btcc has just finished last week here. its a shadow form of its self compared to the 90s, Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

It’s now on Discovery+. But only if you buy the expensive monthly option.

I used to watch that series all the time and put it head and shoulders over F1 for lovers of motor racing and not watching a procession.

At least King of the Hammers week is all live and free on YouTube.

Under 3 hours to the start of the big race today.
The weather looks good, looking forward to a good result for Ritchie Stanaway.

I've just started watching it on catch-up. I've not watched it in 10 plus years. It's not same as the old Falcon and Commodoore days is it? Those mixed with Skylines and RS500s are vivid memories of what seemed a far away exotic event to a young me. Not sure how I was even able to see it, maybe the early analogue Screensport or Eurosport used to show it.

I guess these cars are a common tube frame chassis with different bodies as seems to be the way with a lot of series thee days.

This is Bathhurst to me.

Glad you were able to see (some of?) it Bluest.
Yes, things have changed, so we've got what we've got. From 2026 Toyota will be running in Supercars, which is a huge plus to have the World's biggest manufacturer involved.
AFAIAC, a major attraction is that we are still running V8s!

i remember seeing a few with volvo in it, looks like its kept the regs nice and stable. the BTCC i think over priced them selves out of the market, but going common setup. Making it very expensive and the car underneath is nothing like the road going model. the suspensions are setup differently for a start. Basically meaning, you build a car with the common reg parts, race the car for a few seasons, then swop those parts over to another make. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Yes, visually the Racecars under our "Gen 3" rules, are pretty much identical to their road going vehicle.
Underneath though, all is different, the basis of which is a very strong "frame" around which everything is built. They use a V8 engine, Chev & Ford at the moment, Toyota will use their own V8 when they enter in 2026. Engine power is around 650HP, & at Bathurst a speed of around 300kph is reached going down Conrod straight.
There is an excellent Foxtel coverage in Aus, over every round, pit crew & driver interviews etc & no ads during racing.

Yes, Mark will no longer have a full time drive from the end of 2024, but I reckon He'll be highly sought after as a co-driver in the Enduros next year. He's had a pretty good career, during which He's won the Toruring car Championship & Bathurst in different years.
Someone who you may know who's raced successfully in the UK is Ritchie Stanaway, who's had a bit of a chequred career for various reasons in Supercars, but He's secured a full time drive next year driving a Camaro for the relatively new Team, Premiair Racing. Ritchie won Bathurst last year (2023) as a co driver alongside Shane VanGizbergen who is now racing Nascar in the USA.
I'm watching the Surfers Paradise round on Fox this weekend.
The final round will be in Adelaide in a few weeks, at this stage it looks like Will Brown, who took Shane VanGizbergen's place (He left for Nascar) in the Ampol Red Bull Racing Team driving a Camaro, has a pretty good points lead in this years Championship, & looks odds on to win it. .

Aussie V8 Supercars have their final event for 2024 this weekend, 1st practice yesterday, further practice, qualifying, Top Ten Shootouts & racing over the next 3 days.
There are 300 points up for grabs in this event, but with Will Brown from Red Bull Racing currently with a lead of 180 points, He's pretty much a favorite to win the title.
The Adelaide road circuit is pretty tight, plenty of concrete barriers etc, there's sure to be plenty of action.
