should be a hollow central rib down the length of the underside of the roof panel - screw through the headliner into the rib - or use one of the various hollow fixings; whatever - it needs to be secure in the event of an accident or you could end up with a 20lb javelin.

Thanks @revd. I hadn't considered that through properly. I've instead decided to fit roof bars and bolt a hard container to the roof.
