2012 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 SW Firenze Red

Spectre Spotlights

I recently bought a Spectre replica 110 that has a set of spotlights on the roofrack/rollcage. The spots are activated with the headlights and aren't independently switched. There's a button on the dash that illuminates when the spots are on but pressing the button doesn't do anything. Is this normal behaviour for a spotlight install?

Also the spots only illuminate 4 of the 7 LEDs when they light up. Is this a normal configuration to keep the lights legal ?

Normally the switch allows the extra lights to work when main beam is operated.
Switch on + main beam on = spots on
Switch off + main beam on = spots off
Switch on + main beam off = spots off.

That’s the norm with that switch.

I’d also assume all seven should light at the same time.

Agreed, that's the logical configuration. I'll trace the wiring and see what's up.

On the spots, they are all like that so must have been don't deliberately.

Alternatively perhaps they are all the same age, from the same batch, and failing at the same time in the same way.

It would be very strange to have a light unit like that where it is intentional that only four out of seven light sources actually work, and it is hard to see how it could be related to legality.

It's the same four leds on each spot that light up so it looks deliberate and not failures.

What make of light are they? I can't determine it from the photo.

I figured it out. I was always looking at the lights with the engine off. When you have the engine running and they're getting the full voltage from the alternator, all seven elements light up
