The air box only pulls air from the outside world and not recirculated from the engine ( unlike my Turbo Diesel that would make a real mess of the air filter and the common fix would be to disconnect the breather so that it was directed towards the chassis).
At a very rough guess you could check first that the air filter installed isn’t actually an ‘oiled’ filter like a Piper Cross or K&N, other wise take out the inlet pipe and give it a wash in soapy water, dry and replace. Apart from that I can’t see how oil could get to the filter. |

Thanks for the info, looks like I've been looking at TDI and not TD5 info previously.
