H1 - Looks and sounds great, is that a 4โ exhaust on there or bigger?
Is it straight through? Mind you a Defender V8 is good sounding too. These are some mean machines for sure:

Yes it's a 4" exhaust from the "cat" (really a soot trap) back. It's all pre emissions regulations over here soooo the soot trap itself isn't long for this world. Will really help my EGT's while towing. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

EPA is the worst, it was only created to have an effect on people they wanted to get one over on in my opinion. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Finally got my H1 back from my mechanic after being at his shop for a month. Had some issues with the front driveshaft extension job that he outsourced. A "2 day" job turned into a "3 week" job inexplicably.
Had the driveshaft rebuilt/extended, new PSC power steering pump, oil change, lube, and front e-locker got troubleshot and fixed (electrical connector on top of the diff was not making contact with the harness), some *cough* exhaust *cough* work and replacement of the main fuel tank drain plug.... $2500 later and its back in the driveway - where I promptly started to get it ready for Halloween. Needs a bath badly. Click image to enlarge 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package 2003 Hummer H1 P400 Firehouse Red 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser |

On the way home from the hardware store - I had a beautiful hunter green Defender 90 (Looked like NAS) pull out behind me. I managed to snag a quick video of my rear-view mirror.... but the road I was on was windy and prone to have cyclists all over it so I had to me extra vigilant and thus, the video is quite abbreviated.

Been quiet on the H1 front until this week. I've been just daily driving it... pickup lunch, go to the gym, run some errands. Really no offroading this fall - been way too busy with what seems like either an endless train of guests staying with us, or a bunch of chores that need done around the house/yard. In my spare time I rest and tinker.
This past week, while my wife and I took the new Defender - with our two golden retrievers on a 2000 mile round trip to visit family down in North Carolina (we did the 1000 mile trip down in a single, 16 hour long drive only stopping 3 times for fuel and food) I dropped the H1 off at my buddy's shop and he did the needful to my muffler. Which is he disposed of it for me. It was just getting in the way and it kept me from hearing the wonderful whistling noises that the turbo makes. So now it sounds pretty mean. I'll try to get a video of it tomorrow. He also took care of a pesky transmission oil pan gasket leak that has slowly destroyed my driveway paving this past summer. I was actually glad to hear that it was only the gasket since I was convinced it was the transmission input seal and the whole thing would have to get yanked out to be replaced. Click image to enlarge But then he destroyed all of the goodwill he had earned via a text conversation: Him: "You're going to hate me." Me: "Not likely, you fixed my annoying leak." Him: "I put 40's on my truck <picture>" Me: "Damnit, you're right. I hate you now." Click image to enlarge 40's have been on my list for a while. You don't NEED a body lift to put 40's on but it helps. Thats the thing keeping it from happening for me. Not sure I can fit the truck in the garage with a 3" body lift and 40's. So thats the next upgrade plan. 3" body lift. 40's. Intercooler. P400 Injection Pump. With those mods I should be pushing 600hp and about 900ft/lbs of torque out of my little 6.5L TD. Then maybe I'll have the balls to drill my frame rail out and mount the ECV steering box I've had in my garage for 2 years. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package 2003 Hummer H1 P400 Firehouse Red 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser |

Little 6.5L TD
Looks great! You can really see the ground clearance though with 40โs. I guess really with the torque you donโt really need to worry too much about taller tyres. (Tires) Both the Hummers and Defenders are good, in the fact that the trans handle high torque well.. How are yโall coming off when it comes to the speedo with those and itโs accuracy? GPS would always be accurate though, not so good in a tunnel though or heavy tree cover.

You can feel the difference with the taller tires. Remember that the geared hubs basically halve the torque requirements for the rest of the drivetrain. The differentials themselves are only 2.56 ratio, but the 1.92 ratio in the geared hubs essentially make it a ~5.0 differential ratio. The 4L80e can handle the punishment. Its probably the most reliable thing on the truck (besides the geared hubs).
With regards to the speedometer, from the factory there's a digital ratio adapter box under the cup holders that you can set the driveline ratio with using dip switches. Going from 37's (OEM size) to 40's is, IIRC simply a single dip switch change. Once that is set, the speedometer displays the correct speed. AM General was sure that people would play around with gearing and tire size so they made it easy on us in that regard. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package 2003 Hummer H1 P400 Firehouse Red 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser |
