Can't you just turn them off with the light switch?

On my 23.5 L663, you turn the knob on the end of the left hand stalk away from you (ccw when viewing thr stalk from the left, end on). It's a spring return switch so it returns to its home position. If you turn it only partway, it will turn on the headlights. If you turn it fully away from yourself, this turns the headlights to auto. If you switch the engine off, it defaults back to auto. Look at the markings on the stalk. There's also a collar ring immediately to the right of the end that controls the front and rear foglights. Turning away from you for the front, turning towards you for the rear. Interestingly, when in auto headlight mode and you turn the front foglights on, the headlights default to "on". In the dash display the icon for auto headlights is usually white, turns blue when high beams are on. When not in auto, this icon turns green. Fog light status is shown in the rhs of the display yellow or white for front, green for rear.

I usually drive with the headlights in 'on' mode for the same reasons as you mentioned, auto at night, as I love the matrix headlights. |

Thank you for the comprehensive reply.
I can turn the headlights on manually as you say, and then they stay on all the time for that journey. lf they are not turned on, there's no way to stop them from coming on if you drive under trees and it's dull. (not sunny) l can turn everything off by moving the outer stalk switch away from me, as you suggest. But it turns itself back on to "Auto" as soon as you start to drive. l can also turn on the side lights while stationary. But they turn themselves off again as soon as l start to drive, and it reverts to "Auto". l realise it's to stop people forgetting to turn on their lights at night. But it's really annoying sometimes. Mainly on days when it's not sunny. What l want to be able to do, is turn off the Auto headlights (without having to turn them to "on") so l just have DRL's And not have the headlights coming on every time l drive under trees in the daytime. I have driven quite a few new defenders and I feel that some are more sensitive than others when it comes to turning on the headlamps. My new MY25 is way more sensitive than my MY24 was. Don't know why this is or if there is a sensitivity setting hidden in the CCF but they should have the same setting if that was the case, so again, don't know why. 2025 Defender 130 V8

Is the light sensor on top of the dashboard? If so, throw something that will block light over it and then your lights will come on every time maybe??? MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

l did think of doing that!
The light sensor must be adjustable because windscreen suppliers are able to calibrate it when they fit a new screen. |

Can someone remind me why we need automatic headlights? We never used to have these problems when we had an on/off switch.

Not sure how it is in the UK, but in the US, when the I have my side lights activated, the front DRLs and taillights are activated, and when the vehicle is put in park, the front DRLs dim, and when you put it in gear, they brighten up to the standard level. ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar)
