Boom !!
Well that looks like the end of my TD5 motor!

Don't suppose anyone has a nice low mileage td5 engine sitting in their shed they'd like to shift?

What sort of miles, and symptoms did you have?

Boring failure, or something fun?

Ewwww..!!

I had similar looking damage on an old XT250 Yamaha.
The exhaust valve had snapped. In the second it took me to pull the clutch in, the head of the valve destroyed the piston crown, top of the con rod and the combustion chamber.

I hope you get sorted with a replacement..👍👍 2002 Land Rover 110 Td5 Utility

70mph in the outside lane of the M5 all running fine and then a nasty clatter.
Coasted for a few hundred yards until there was a hard shoulder.
4 hours later rhe RAC bothered themselves to turn up and recover me 2 miles to the next services. It was then another 16 hours before they managed.to arrange onward travel from the services!!!!!!!

A lot of similar stories about the RAC recently.

That engine looks like its best re purposed as a coffee table.
Hope you manage to source another one for reasonable money.

At least the repairs won't cost you too much and are well worth doing
If that happened to my 2022 Defender outside the warranty it would likely be uneconomic to repair.

Rac have become proper rubbish.

Left my partner and 4yr old for so long that the pub they were sheltering in closed - they called at 4:30 pm!

I've only looked at the photos on a phone, and can't see the bore. The head is stuffed but a new head and a rebore might be possible?

Td5 engines are still cheap since Disco's till provide plenty as donor. Had one sitting around 10p perfectly fine sold it for 500 euro.

10p engine are cheaper and the bottom end is the same. So if you can find a good cheap engine you can always put a reconditioned or even new 15p head on it and you will have something that last a long long time for not that much money at all

Especially in the UK.
