i watched a video on the LDV or sherpa vans, Very interesting story that.
Funny thing about the maestro, is that it lived on in other ways after its death. The hubs went to lived on with the metro and MGF, Its rear setup became part of the mk3 bubble rover 200, the rear lights stayed on part of the mk1 disco. Also the maestro MG series was faster than the golf, and i think may have even gave the ford escort RS turbos a run for their money if i am right.
The Metro, which i think is still a cracker of a car. It dipped its toes into motorsport, early BTCC, rallying, own racing series, which still runs today, but i suspect the grid is very small now.

As what Rasher said about restorations, i saw a video of a bloke who bought an MG midget, at a classic car auction, which had a 10k restoration. He picked it up for 5k after all the fees. When he broke the bill down, it looked like it was one of those repairs that ended up been a runner way train. Basically started off small, then went bigger. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Think I have said this before but my Dad had a 1983 1.3 Maestro in Zircon Blue. It was a pain in the bum from day one. The BL dealer in Norwich - Mann Egerton, was next to useless. They didn’t know how to repair it, and quite frankly that didn’t seem to bother them.
Procta is correct. BL / Austin Rover had some reasonably good cars and some of them were exceptional except their build quality, aftersales service and reliability were awful.
I’m not saying that Vauxhall or Ford in those days were squeaky clean with great products that didn’t rust and didn’t breakdown, but they did seem to be less problematic.

Before Rover went belly up, I believe they had some excellent products but without investment and basically having no money to develop new models, it was only ever going to go in one direction. Face lifting a car and changing the number wasn’t going to win any awards.

The MG Rovers have never been rated up there with other hot hatches of the time. The Rover Sterling was a stunning drive. I loved the Rover 600 and when it worked, my Rover 214 was an excellent drive with a cracking engine. Pity I could never tell if the car would start again once I had stopped it.

On the Rovers / MG's, I had a Montego turbo, torque steer was so bad you didn't need to turn the wheel to overtake, just plant your foot and the boost did it for you!

Last Rover I had was a 200 VVTI 1.8 bubble, apart from some 18" MG alloys it was a standard red 4 door, comfy and very very nippy. It was much better in terms of quality, design and performance than anything comparable price wise from Ford Peugeot or VW.

Like most of the UK's manufacturing base, bad management and stupid working practices spelt their demise, very sad.

I know some of you guys go down to Morocco etc, maybe you have stoped at this place - https://www.fundacionjorgejove.com/museo-a...oria-mahi/ seen it on a few YouTube videos the other day. Some really rare cars, or common cars that only a few exist. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details
