Air Intakes
I know the subject of air intakes has been covered lots of times.

However, i would still welcome views with the aim of getting more air into the engine for my setup.

I currently have a Nugget wing air intake adaptor connected to the std side intake. pipe (90mm) goes from this to the to the filter housing on the side of the engine. (m57)

what i am interested in knowing if there is much difference to air flow to justify the cost of changing between what i have

the Nugget wing adaptor box to std LR wing grill with 90mm pipe

to

1. Pipe straight onto side exit grill so do away with Nugget box - does it have a CSA constriction at the rectangular part?
2. a 4" pipe straight to wing side vent (not sure this is available off the shelf)
3. Fitting a large bore snorkel such as the Nakatanenga one with pre fitler at the top https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/defender-raised-air-intake-defender-td4/

i get it that option 3 gives me wading capability, i am not too concerned on this, but does it draw colder/'better' air?

or any other options? Cheers

Well I've been commenting on the subject on and off and recently expressed my views on the alisport system I fitted after eventually finding the time to do and complete a few tests.., and whilst you will have a different engine and set up I'll make a couple general points you may want to consider..
You say get more air into your engine..my question would be more air than what..have you or do you monitor the intake air at present??
On the question of ducting..you need to try and establish whether your present set up is supplying your current engine needs (over its operating range) without been a restriction..again we are back to the point of needing to know what is actually flowing and maybe disconnecting it briefly from the air box to see if you get more air than with the ducting connected..if its adequate and doesn't affect the figures then there is little to be gained by increasing capacity unless you say intend say upgrading the turbo....
Those would be my first thoughts on the subject 👍

I have recently went to a 4" snorkel which is 4" all the way to the airbox where it steps down to 3.5",

Induction noise isn't much different other than it sounds cooler, so far have found it to make a difference in regards to the general smoke under load , it's gotten better from a haze to a wisp is probably the best way to describe it when working it hard 110 XS DC M57 + 8 Speed auto
