Hill descent control without ATPC
Hi all,

I have a D350 90 on order and have a few more days before the build spec is locked in. Does anyone know whether you can still select the speed for Hill descent control if you have not specโ€™d ATPC?

Thanks in advance

You can set a speed for HDC, then it wonโ€™t exceed that speed going downhill. ATPC is more like an off road cruise control where you set a speed and it will drive along at that speed without you using the throttle. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Yes, HDC is standard on all LR products. Hell, it even came standard on my Porsche Macan. ATPC, is basically an off-road cruise control just as it was mentioned above. I have it on mine, but I don't use it that much. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ ๐ƒ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ ๐’ ๐๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar)

Yes. I have the same vehicle and HDC is standard. I didnโ€™t opt for APTC. Not needed for most users. MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

Yep, I was using it last week in wales and it was very useful (I don't have ATPC) - Braking each wheel independently, depending on levels of grip, and being able to speed it up for smoother sections and slow it down for bumpier obstacles.

[removed incorrect info! Thanks Cincy]

ATPC works by trying to figure out the terrain as you transition from say, a gravel track, to a muddy lane, then into a slippy grass field. It's probably a good feature for someone working in the field all day long and constantly switching between different surfaces - a civil engineer moving between different sites, or a farmer zipping between fields and lanes. It would become tiresome to keep changing modes manually. But for most leisure users, I imagine most of us are eager to play with the settings if/whenever the opportunity presents itself.

That is not how ATPC works. What you are describing is Terrain Response 2 or more commonly known as Auto Terrain Response. ATPC is an off-road cruise control that works between 1-18mph. You set the desired speed using the cruise control buttons to set a constant, steady speed and you won't need to focus on throttle application, just steering and analyzing your surroundings.

TR2 is a reactive system that automatically adjusts the ABS, traction control, ESP, suspension, steering, throttle response and differentials depending on the type of terrain you are traversing. It does work incredibly well, but it is a reactive system, so it takes a moment (about 10-20 feet) for the car to figure out what it is driving over. The standard Terrain Response is a proactive system, so if you know what terrain you are on, you manually select the appropriate setting. I have TR2 on my Defender, but I only use it on-road, where it is excellent at adapting to road conditions. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ ๐ƒ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ ๐’ ๐๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar)

My apologies, you're absolutely right. I forgot that function even existed as I struggle to think of a real world application for it.. when are you offroad and so distracted you can't use your foot to pedal?
Perhaps a Kenyan gamekeeper!? Or very long boring lanes?
