Hi, I keep seeing the below vehicle being driven by an older Lady in a local village and today on my rounds came across it parked up, it looks tidy and can’t remember the last time I saw one before this one cheers Paul

Dream car of my youth. I liked the earlier MR2’s so much better than the latter one’s.
Sat in one when I was about 15 at the Royal Norfolk Show. A great looking car and as you so rightly say, a rare motor to be seen on the road. Clocked a TR8 on the A11 east bound tonight. I think the Triumphs are more collectible (and a bit older, but not much!) than say a Toyota MR2. I can’t actually recall the last time I saw a TR8? |

I did see a mk1 MR2, might have been on an A reg. This was a few months ago, i think i mentioned it on here. Its been a good while since i saw the mk2 variant. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

The later face lift rovers i don't that many were made, i do remember reading that the later front ends were a nightmare to get hold of, after rover went bust. I suspect that they didn't make many service parts at the time, due to what was going on at the time. This will explain why you see a lot of the later rovers with out the front ends on, in breaker yards. Friend of mine had a Rover 75, I've got to admit, it was damn comfy, had all the bells and whistles and was pretty pokey. He used to go to sea for a few months and he always asked me to give a quick run now and again, the seats really hugged you softly just felt like driving around in an armchair. Unfortunately that developed a few problems that just weren't financially viable to fix, so went to car heaven in the end... Probably stating the obvious here, but most of these cars in this post fall into two distinct categories.
A) Cars that got wrapped around lamp posts by their owners. B) Cars that would disintegrate in front of their owners after the rust worm takes hold. To have a nice working example of any car in either of these categories shows commitment to the marque and will usually require a fair amount of grunt and money to keep them in the way they were accustomed to. As the Mathewson's say, 'you don't make money restoring classic cars' (although if I recall, the Lotus Esprit did turn a profit in the TV programme, but little else has). But thank God some people do keep these cars going as it would be a shame for the next generation to assume that cars have always been boring, always looked more or less the same after design in a wind tunnel and windows did require a bit of effort to open and were not all electric Great posts. Please keep them coming. P.S. Can't ever recall seeing a Wartburg. Does anyone know much about the vehicles? |

An East German manufacturer back in the days of the Iron Curtain. I can recall seeing them in the 1960s when imports in very small numbers began, and there were never many. Generally they were, even then, a laughing stock and you just felt rather sorry for the owner (rather like Skoda during the "skip joke" era)! |
