Thanks all. This has been a fun project. Here is another prototype I just printed (unpainted). I made this one a bit thinner. Also engraved the logo into the material rather than a decal. Going to paint it up and see how it looks. Lastly I have some rubber gasket material on the way so I an cut a gasket to go between the body and the mount.

That looks great. Much cleaner than using the existing holes or Euro frame.
But, how did you get an '89 into the States? Personal vehicle when you moved across the pond? |

Thank you kind sir. Long story short I have wanted a classic Defender for some time. But, Have been scared off by people in California telling me I would never be able to get it registered due to the strict emissions and SMOG rules here. However, One came up for sale in Florida that had just been imported. So I jumped on it and hoped I would be able to figure i out. It took me 5 different visits to the Department of Motor Vehicles, and meeting with a Police officer, but I get it registered!! It is not only a rare car in the states but even more rare to have one with California plates.

Any chance you could send me the file for this so I can modify and print for a Canadian license plate?
Thanks!

For those wanting to make their own - PLEASE DO NOT SELL - I have offered the files up for free on printables, so anyone can 3D print or have one made.

I really like this and thanks for the file, I've got a friend printing one for me, but I can't find the nylon screw inserts shown here, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HCV97...8&th=1 in UK, so has anyone got any ideas, maybe we call them something different

![]() Click image to enlarge I just added a model so you can print the inserts... NOTE: I have not tested these, I suggest using ASA, Poly-C or ABS. Cheers and let me know how it works out https://www.printables.com/model/991168-cl...cence-plat 1989 Defender 90 2022 Defender 110 SE DIY’er | Always learning |

HDPE & Nylon 66 are worth looking at as materials, the latter not that cheap though.
Personally I’d paint, as that then has UV resistance that’s tried and tested and the item is rigid anyway. Looks great Soulruder911. ![]() ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Yes! Good catch paint is a must IMO. I lightly sanded mine, painted, and clear-coated it to protect it from the elements and UV. Thank you 1989 Defender 90
