I wonder what the V5 and DVLA records says about these as far as number of previous keepers, MoT history etc. are concerned.

It would be pretty galling to spend £200k or thereabouts on a "new" vehicle which needs an MoT test from day one. Similarly does it have to be registered on a "Q" plate (or vanity plate) or does it keep its original registration?

Sign up for the tour of J&LR Classic - £70 and I'm sure all your questions will be answered

Fabulous facility at Ryton and friendly staff too. The cars on sale looked well worth the money. I had a free tour when I went to view a 110 with a ply Guys camper interior that wasn't in the showroom but happened to be in the workshop. No money changed hands except I ended up buying my wife a Polo shirt and a couple of coffee mugs.

Way out of my price range, but I do like it. The Defender "Works V8 70th Edition" was pretty special I thought,...I don't think they had any problems selling them?.
There are enough people where money is simply not an issue, who wouldn't think twice about the price, they just fancy one, they mightn't even appreciate it like a true enthusiast, but because it appeals to them, they'll buy one.

Hopefully loads of Rich bods will buy them, get fed up with them and flood the second hand market making them affordable.

I can but dream.................

I messed about with the configurator and then got a call to confirm the pricing...90 starts at £190k+vat, 110 is a smidge under £200k+vat. If I had the ££ I'd rather go to TwentyTen and get a completely bespoke 2 door RR with a John Eales engine for £100k, and leave change for an early Porsche 912.

I wonder if Land Rover's status as a manufacturer gives them the latitude to declare them to be new vehicles and wipe the slate clean? Darren

I had a look at the configurator, & it all looks pretty good to me, but of course, as I've said way above my "reach".
There seems to be a pretty good range of options, & also the opportunity to obtain your own individual specs if you're prepared to pay for them.
I don't think they'll have much of an issue finding buyers if the 70th works edition is anything to go by.

Interesting that the two vehicles in the photos in the PistonHeads article are carrying contrived plates, neither 382HSD nor 936VAN exists, according to DVLA.

I don't know whether I've read correctly or not, but I think I've read that the V8 in this V8 Limited edition is naturally aspirated, putting out 405HP, a bit different to the 70th Works edition which had a supercharged V8 developing 525 HP.
Is this correct?

They are just used vehicles on the original identity with new parts. Although a lot come from Europe, are imported, registered and then exported again. The real question is do they tart up the original chassis, or get a new one and restamp it?

I have found the identity of most of the vehicles so far:
https://defender.lrworkshop.com/collections/works-v8-70th-edition
https://defender.lrworkshop.com/collection...v8-trophy2
https://defender.lrworkshop.com/collection...-v8-trophy

They only change the colour, engine CC and fuel type on the V5c. The "model" can't be changed. The MOT histories show that they change the odometer to zero, or fit a new speedo, although most vehicles are pretty low mileage to begin with.

I was at JLR Classic earlier this year and they had loads of the Islay editions in build. They have only been updating the DVLA data in the last few months so I need to update this page:

What a goose I am, I've been thinking all along that the "70 th works edition" had the same supercharged 525hp V8 engine as in the "new"/current Defender, which of course it doesn't!
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
