"Oil service"
My Defender is telling me that it will need an "oil service" in 1,000 miles.

The mileage is currently 15,000.

ls this just an interim oil/filter change, or is it the 21,000 mile first service that has been brought forward by the Defender's software due to the kind of driving that l do.

Probably due to oil dilution increase as a result of lots of short journeys. MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

The oil has been changed twice, at 5,000 and again at 10,000 miles. So l assume the software is just guessing that the oil has become diluted.

l'll get it done, obviously. But is it just an oil change or the first service.

Oil service is just the oil and filter.

The ECU makes a guess at oil dilution based on running cycles, so when you do your own oil changes if you reset the counter with the IID tool then itโ€™ll know itโ€™s got fresh stuff in.

Exactly that! If the reset is not performed then the car has no way of knowing it has fresh oil to reset it's calculations etc.
I think some folks change oil and don't reset hence getting weird messages. There is a way to do it without an IID on the L663. Couple of YouTube vids show it. MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung
