Hi All,
I greatly appreciate any help you can provide, so thank you in advance. My 2009 Defender 110 2.4 TDCI has been running well for the past few months. However, after returning from Devon last week, I noticed a loud ticking noise coming from the top of the engine, although it was still driving fine. I posted a video in the Puma FB forum, which you can hopefully view here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1065881687...7022542034 The general consensus, and after consulting with a local mechanic, pointed to the injectors or washers ect being the issue. The mechanic confirmed that Cylinder 2 was not reading right and suggested replacing all four injectors since they were likely on their way out. I ordered new injectors, and the mechanic installed them this morning. Unfortunately, the noise persists. His computer showed the numbers on the cylinder in positive and the 3 others were showing negative readings. The mechanic is uncertain about the next steps and has suggested replacing the Rocker Arm and Valve Housing, suspecting the rockers might be causing the ticking noise. Does anyone have further suggestions? Are there any TDCI specialists around SW England who might be able to help? Given how common this engine is, I'm hoping someone out there knows what the issue could be. |

Your mechanic sounds more like a part changer to me, blindly guessing at would could be the issue and costing you loads of money at the same time

That is common, for example offering Turbo replacement when only the EA needs replacing.
Fuel pump replacement when only the VCV needs replacing, and things like that. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

Had a rattle in the engine bay of a 2.4 Puma. Turned out to be the metal heatshield cover on the turbo needed tightened. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I had this it was VCV valve on the back of the pump sticking. Not uncommon but you need small hands to change it.
Can sound like a bag of spanners when the VCV plays up. 2008 Defender 110 XS CSW Volvo S60 T8 Triumph 1200 Rally Explorer G0UBX |

Looks like the O/P disappeared. l hope he got his Defender sorted, it would be useful to know what the fault turned out to be.
