I had water coming in on the passenger side & changing the door seal made no difference, which was frustrating as hell! I sealed around the windscreen & still water was coming in, damn it! It's definitely a love hate relationship with my 110 at times & she never apologises for the trouble she causes me.
Then I replaced the little butyl pads which seal the gaps between the panels (under the seals) & that did the trick. Unbelievable! That was a couple of years ago & not one single drop of water ingress since. This is the useful article that told me what I needed to do. https://www.landrovermonthly.co.uk/article...ter-leaks/ |

There used to be a “Defender water ingress manual” you could download with all the leak points in it

Yeah, I’ve got a couple of copies of it thanks. I’m pretty confident that it’s the seal at this point tbh, if it isn’t then I can recommence discovery

When you replaced the seals did you add any putty to the gaps where the tub joins the sides, and also sides to the roof? always a good idea to use a bit of gum gum putty and a bit of tape over the top of that. Stops it running down the inside of the seals.

I think it’s called Dum dum. Autocorrect might have adjusted to gum!

I used aftermarket seals for the front doors but still leaking. just wandering if it would be worth biting the bullet and buying genuine seals

Definitely we don't fit anything other than genuine seals direct from JLR not Ebay

The lincs landies
A couple of suggestions to try. When my passenger door was leaking I built up a small amount of non setting mastic under the end of the front gutter. Bit trial and error, but it diverted the water off the front of the door top and side. Also check that the door top is sealing against the top of the door seal. I could get my fingers in between the door top and seal. It is possible to bend the top of the door in if badly seated, but check the door adjustment first. Expensive, but I have always replaced with genuine door seals, being careful to fit them as set out in the water ingress sheet ( I think). From memory , you start in the top right hand corner and work across and down, being careful to get a tight smooth fit at the mid door bends. The door seals are handed left and right too. |
