@Ruben, I love Beagles, they're gorgeous hounds!
@Procta, lovely little fella you got there. We already had our current Scottie when we lost our previous one and I honestly think it made it "easier" - not quite the right word, but certainly had too much of a distraction to keep this other Doggo happy and healthy (it was her loss too...lost 'adoptive' mum I guess), so took away some focus of moping/mourning. Monty looks like he'll definitely keep you busy as he grows into his role as the Chief of Happiness! So far this one is bit more reserved like prince was, had a few licks again. Still shy's away at times. Zeus is having a growling and hissing session, 1st time i have heard him so vocal.
But i think he is laying the rules. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

hahah poor cat, probably thought he was in for some peace for a while, then a pup comes along!
We found with pups it only takes about a week at most for them to realise they're in their new home and it's time for them to try and rule the roost! Click image to enlarge Well we have had some good and some slightly less than good news back about our dear wee beastie! A while back she had an issue with her nail, she was licking her foot quite a lot and it just generally seemed uncomfortable. It was then diagnosed as a nail infection, after seemingly an age and lots of back and forthing, she had a toe amputated and it turned out to be cancer! A cancer which is quite often aggressive. Our hearts dropped, she was only 7 and a half(ish)... Situation was then made worse, because due to reasons unknown, all the amputated digit wasn't sent off, so we had no margins - for those who don't know (because it was all brand new to me), when stuff gets sent off, they check how much it has spread into the bone. She had had a "visually clean" bit of bone also removed (extra digit upwards) but that piece wasn't sent off, so all that the egg heads had was a nasty bit of cancerous bone...had they had the clean bit, they could see whether there was an area that had no spread and that would give "margins".. So lots of worrying ensued. Eventually managed to get scans done and got the news yesterday that there was nothing to be found on the scans (good news), but that the attempt at lymph node aspiration had failed (less good news), but it can kinda be taken as potentially good news that it wasn't all enlarged and nasty. As it stands at the moment, things are looking cautiously optimistic. I often err on the side of caution and am not getting my hopes up shes all fine, but I'm happy to have no awful news! I suppose I'm sharing this because hey, I love my doggo, but I think also because we felt like the original vets were perhaps not as thorough to start with and had I read this story from someone else, I might have been a bit more pushy about it. Always a worry Ianb. Unless you are a pet person, you wouldn’t understand.
I am quite worried about the state of the Vets in this country. There are precious few independents and most are controlled by two or three big players. We have been very lucky. Our local Vets (who we used since my family had a farm) is owned by CVS so is owned by one of those big players. We honestly have had no problems with the care but their IT system is awful! I do know plenty who have complained about their service. When we get monopolies, choice goes out of the window. I can’t imagine why something wouldn’t be sent to the lab for analysis (God knows they charge enough). The worry of not knowing, I couldn’t comprehend. I think the charges are mostly down to most people having insurance. It’s a licence to print money. I appreciate our vets now has hospital grade operating theatres and carry out more and more technical procedures but animal ownership is getting to be only for the wealthy. A few years back a consultation was £30-40. I hardly ever visit now without it costing three figures without any prescription. I hope all remains well with your Dog Ian. They are your best friend and never want to borrow your Landrover. |

Hey Rashers, yeh it certainly is a worry with the small vets being swallowed up.
We actually changed vets after the amputation because of it all. I know the practice we used had recently had a partner pass away and they were definitely feeling the lack of an experience person, but I think with the whole way all was carried out, it felt like chasing a fire and putting out the embers it left behind, rather than getting ahead of it. Everything seemed to be diagnosed and treated on the best case scenario and when that didn't work, go to the next level, then the next then the next etc... which sure, if it was just a simple infection would have saved lots of £, but it wasn't and the pain she was in was evident and in the end probably cost us more with the treatments that didn't work. But, I think the practice was overworked, understaffed etc. I always felt like the appointment was finished 5 mins before it started. The new one we went too was probably a little dearer, but just felt like we were being listened too, and not rushed out the door. I think you're right, people that don't have a pet/dog look at you like you're mad when you explain the bills The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@YetitheDefender Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/yetithedefender/ |

Hope all is ok in the long run Ian, We have had our share as you have read
Vets that was dealing with jasper, i have to say failed him. As you say its all about money not about the animal. I found that vets just say its this, but don't bother to check for other things there and then. Just to make sure. My mam was charged £20 for a pain killer or something a long those lines, Which was your average off the shelf job. Just shows you how much of a joke it all is. 1st time i have ever heard our Mainecoon be so vocal, and be vicious too. Gave Monty a slap with the paw. Zeus is normally that laid back it would flat, He is most laid back cat i have ever met. I am sure Zeus thinks Monty is another cat, due to the size. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

This is Jupiter. He's a 5 year old. We just brought home a new 8 week old golden named Sebastian. Don't have any pics of either of them with the new Defender yet - since we're trying to keep the interior nice and dog-free for a little while

Thanks Procta, we're keeping our fingers/paws crossed. Currently shes happy so thats the main thing (well, technically shes flat out as it's too hot at the moment - bring on winter )
Awww pups. Adorable very lovely looking Jupiter too! Offtopic: The Humvee/Hummer (not sure correct name), is interesting, if you ever do a sort of offtopic/non defender thread about it with more pics I'd def be interested. Not the most commonly spotted vehicle over here in the UK. There is a few of the ridiculous stretched versions knocking about near me for hire, but they're the sort of modern looking version, I guess it's the same as the Modern Defender next to the original shape Defender sort of concept. Is that a snorkel/raised air intake just in front of the wing mirror? Whats the deal with it being relatively low? Not that I'd ever want to be as deep as my defenders snorkel The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@YetitheDefender Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/yetithedefender/ |

Zeus has never stopped growing, hissing etc at him, he even has a go at us Also Monty has also tried to mount Zeus, which was a laugh. Here is Zeus watching us all.
