Leaking Windshield
Hello

My new (to me) 2022 Defender 110 (or rather the wife's) seems to be leaking water from the top of the windshield behind the rear-view mirror and onto the dash. It also seems to be coming down into the driver's side footwell.

I did a search and it seems that another forum member had this issue and he mentioned that there was possibly a TSB for this? Can anyone confirm this and if the TSB # is known - post it here?

Thanks in advance! 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

lt's a fault l've not heard of before with the new Defender. Maybe the windshield was replaced and not sealed properly?

Can you take it back to the Dealer. lt should still be within the manufacturer's warranty although the windshield might not be if it's been replaced by someone other than Land Rover.

Here's the thread I found that references the TSB. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic84881.html

The description of the leak in that thread matches mine. A visual inspection of the seal around the windshield surround doesn't raise any suspicions.

I bought the vehicle used from a Porsche dealership (it was a trade-in). It is still under warranty from LR and I have a service appointment next week. In my experience it helps to self-diagnose and be well informed about the underlying issues so you can interact with the service managers from a better perspective. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

Just got a call from the dealer and the windshield needs to be replaced. The service manager said that he was surprised that my Defender windshield was leaking as he said typically only the Discovery leaks but he said that it was one of the worst windshield leaks he's ever seen.

He was not aware of a TSB for it.

Thankfully they have a Defender windshield in stock but they farm out installation to a local glass installer so I have to wait until next week to get the truck back.

Thankfully all covered under warranty. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

l should hope it is covered under the warranty.

l hope Land Rover fire the robot that fitted your windshield. l did a factory tour (Evoque/Discovery Sport) and if ever a robot looked bored, it was the one that had the task of running a bead of silicone around the door frames before they were joined together.

I will certainly demand that that robot's compensation be docked!

Thanks for flagging this and nice to know there is a TSB - useful link to "Tim in Scotland". My windscreen has just started leaking after 18 months. Booked in with the dealership already.

Since I got the notification for this thread - the leak repair/replacement on my Defender has held up well.

In fact the week after the repair was completed, my wife and I took it on a road trip down to North Carolina where we got hit by not one, but two tropical storms. It basically got torture tested right out of the stable.

Just to re-iterate - my service manager said that there was no TSB available for a leaky windshield for the Defender. Not in the US anyways.

Best of luck with your repair. Supposedly the supply of new windshields is extremely constrained (as in absolutely no stock in the US) at the moment - supposed, IIRC - due to JLR changing OEM suppliers for it. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

Thanks - nice to know it held up to the tropical storms. We get storms but not tropical here in the UK!
I will post how I get on once I have been to the dealership but that's about a month away.

For a variety of reasons I was only able to get to the dealership yesterday to get the leak looked at.
It had leaked a couple more times in the winter storms and I left the stain on the windscreen for the dealership to see. However besides them cleaning the stain nothing further was done. They were unable to reproduce the leak which I am not surprised because my power washer doesn't produce a leak - you need a 60mph wind behind it as well!
The dealership maintained there had been no TSB issued by JLR and advised me to contact them direct which I did this morning and it has been logged but it does seem from that conversation that the dealership are correct that no TSB has been issued. It looks that I am going to have to wait until other owners report a leak but as it was 18 months before mine became apparent, and as it needed a storm, then it may be some time before anyone else reports. If you do have the problem then my advice is to report it directly to JLR before going to the dealership. The telephone number in the UK is 03705000500.

The way in which the dealership should test for a leaky windshield is to spray the exterior outside edge of the glass with a soapy, bubbling solution then go inside the cabin with a leaf blower or compressed air nozzle and start forcing air along the edges of the inside of the windshield while a separate technician observes the soapy solution for bubbles along the edge.

If they just blew water on it from the outside - then they utterly and completely failed to properly diagnose a leaking windshield and should be shunned as incompetents for time eternal. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package
