I remember seeing a brand spaking new 61 plate Transit on the 1st of September screaming away from a set of traffic lights, smoke pouring from the tyres.... Ouch Rolling Eyes

taking the advice from earlier posts in this thread I bought a couple of genuine oil filters from Toppings LR dealers in Enniskillen today.

When I came home I compared them to a Halfords one (made by Coopers ) I have in the shed and the LR ones seem much flimsier in construction so I guess they cost far less to produce than the so called pattern filters but again they have you by the short and curlies when it comes to warranty claims and 'quality' genuine parts. I would suggest that as usual the bare minimum standard is required by OEM parts and is often exceeded by specialist filter manufacturers such as coopers, Fram, Mehle etc but one has no choice but to pay over the odds for 'genuine'

However, when I was at the parts desk I could see right into their warehouse and there were racks of boxes emblazoned with the Crossland logo. Now I know that Crossland are another respected filter manufacturer so I wonder if they make LR genuine filters and got the business because they were cheaper ? Remember my auto engineer mate said cost is king when the bare minimum standards are met.

Anyway when my Puma's out of warranty its going to be Coopers - half the price twice the quality !
