Again I'm replying not through any practical experience as I've not had the pump off the engine but I would have thought the oil is normal and that's how the drive is lubricated.. The pump has two connections.. On the landrover one is normally blanked.. Is yours??
I did check the pump on mine and I'll check to see what it pulled👍

It's pulling nearly a bar neg pressure👍
And you can see the brake pedal been depressed👍😂
