Puma 2.2 crankshaft oil seal - purpose of plastic spacer?
Hi all,

I have replaced the timing chain on my Puma 2.2 engine and am also replacing the front crankshaft oil seal. The original seal has a plastic spacer attached to it, but the one included in the SKF timing chain kit does not have that—see the attached photos.

Original seal:

Does anybody know the purpose of this plastic spacer, and whether it is necessary to fit the crankshaft oil seal with the same spacer as the original one?

I have checked some photos of the 2.4 Puma engine, and it seems that the original seal on the 2.4 engine does not have that spacer.

Don’t know the purpose of the spacer. The VR gaskets are good. Used many of them without issues
